I must be missing something obvious, but when I go to the editing page for my profile, I can't seem to find a mechanism for changing my thumbnail picture.
how do I change my user thumbnail for dhanswers?

Like WordPress.com and GitHub, DHAnswers retrieves profile pictures from the Gravatar service (https://www.gravatar.com/). If you don't have a gravatar, the system will display a lovely, random geometric design instead.
