Hi all,
Forgive me - I am a UNIX n00b, and I really feel like I should know this.
In a nutshell, is it possible and/or advisable to create multiple Omeka sites on the same server? If so, in three sentences or less, what does an admin have to do to do this?
(Not looking for step-by-step instructions, just an general idea of where I have to go next with my own research to make this happen.)

Should be doable. Separate folder for each install, separate database for each install, then the magic bit: separate VirtualHost in Apache's httpd.conf, pointing between each domain/subdomain and the folder that should be served up.
There are doubtless more elegant ways to do it; the omeka.net folks will know what they are. But the above should at least work.
Dorothea's right. That's how we do it here in our library--separate folder for each omeka installation, unique MySQL database for each site, and then a virtual host config in Apache and an entry in our DNS alias table so we can give each site a unique (and easy-to-remember) name.
